Title: Media and Scientific Communicationasa Wayof Convergenceof People Alongthe New Silk Road

Abstract

Media plays an important role in the development and promotion of cultural, historical heritage, and political, economic, and scientific cooperation between nations and countries. Dissemination of information across national borders can be of great help to the people of Europe to embrace a common destiny shared by a number of areas with the other countries which have already been gathered by the Belt and Road.

The media broadcasting system of Radio-Television of Serbia (RTS) and China

Central Television (CCTV) signed different cooperation agreements (2016) on the exchange of their programs and mutual support and assistance in their work. Serbia and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding which includes 20 joint development and research projects during President Xi Jinping's visit to Serbia in June. This is the great opportunity for the two nations to get to know better their history, culture, scientific achievements and contemporary life, also to broaden this model of cooperation toward all countries along the new Silk Road.

Radio-Television of Serbia (RTS) as a leading broadcasting network in Serbia and one of the largest in the region of Western Balkans preserves national and world cultural heritage—ethnological and folk customs series dedicated to the cultural identity of the people who lived in the former Yugoslavia and Serbia, including video records of history and politics, and the sociological and general cultural transmission, such as customs of different countries, portraits of world leaders, political phenomena on the international scene. As such, audiovisual archives are becoming increasingly important as a source of data used for studying social classes and analyzing the mass psychology at some particular time, for sociological and anthropological research.

In addition to providing information, educational and innovation functions of the media are crucial to selecting and understanding the core of the new Silk Road, and serve as its goals and perspectives. Media in the countries which participate in the Belt and Road Initiative as well as in those that aspire to participate (such as African countries), should play the role of taking over the citizens' forum to encourage public debate on significant new Silk Road topics, should safeguard citizens' interests, and should act as a mobilizing factor aimed at strengthening the participation of the public.
