Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, has attracted over 95,000 young people over the past 4 months thanks to a slate of favorable policies issued in late July, reports chengdu.cn.

About 80% of the city's newly-registered permanent residents are below the age of 30.

The figures have been compiled after the city issued a raft of new preferential policies on July 19, 2017, in an attempt to attract and retain talent in China's latest talent grab.

Local authorities have promised one week of free accommodation for job seekers, as well as offering permanent residence to graduates with a bachelor's degree or above.

Other incentives include government subsidies for qualified applicants.

In addition to the tangible benefits, Chengdu has also tried to capitalize on its cultural symbol, the giant panda, to lure talents.

A report by Xinhua notes those who obtain Chengdu's"talent green card" are allowed free visits to the city's world-famous panda breeding research base.

With China's four traditional first-tier cities, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, remaining a major attraction for Chinese talent, other cities, especially second tier cites, have been rolling out generous policies to try to lure young people.
