A grand cultural awards ceremony hosted by the Communication University of China (CUC) will be staged on New Year's Eve, according to a press conference last Friday.

The gala event, the second of its kind, is the only domestic cross-year celebration of China's cultural industries. For the first time, this year's webcast of the gala will involve numerous internet celebrities.

The rankings of nine major cultural industries will be released during the ceremony, covering important aspects in cultural development. Celebrities from cultural industries, leaders of well-known cultural enterprises, as well as key industrial and academic stakeholders will comment on the hottest cultural topics of 2017 before looking ahead to 2018.

Lin Zhenyu, the gala's chief director, was proud that this year's event promises to expand across the three "Cs" or three dimensions. Lin said, firstly, "cross-screen" represents the convergence of media through new ways of interaction and communication. Secondly, "cross-field" refers to the sharing of knowledge across disciplines, by merging academic forums with artistic performances. Thirdly, "cross-year" brings together "the achievements of yesterday, the prosperity of today and the expectations of tomorrow."
