Beijing tops a list of 200 Chinese cities that ranks their rail transit capabilities, according to China's Urban Rail Transit Industry Development Report released at the annual meeting of the World Railway Development and Research Society held recently.

Beijing came in at first with a score of 96.93 on the list, followed by Shanghai, Chengdu, Nanjing and Wuhan.

The rankings assessed the operation, construction, products and services of the standard rail transit in 200 cities. The assessment is based on a series of indicators, including the technological innovation indicator, the supply-related industry indicator, the application-related industry indicator, the management innovation indicator, the business mode innovation indicator, and the development sustainability indicator.

Beijing ranked first in the technological innovation indicator, the supply-related industry indicator, the application-related industry indicator, and the business mode innovation. It ranked second in the indicators of management innovation and development sustainability.

The report said rail transportation contributed positively to China's major plans such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development. 

Currently, China boasts a world-leading position in its rail transport technology. The country has the longestmileage of high-speed railways and urban rail transit in operation, as well as longest mileage of high-speed railways and urban rail transit under construction.
