China launched its official Belt and Road Portal (www.yidaiyilu.gov.cn) in Russian, French, Spanish and Arabic on Thursday, making the portal available in a total of six languages to reach a wider audience.

The newly launched versions of the site will serve as international gateways to news on Belt and Road construction, relevant policies, cultures along the Belt and Road routes, business information and data analysis. There are also a Belt and Road special coverage and keywords from the initiative in each version, offering the government's introduction to the background, development, aim, content and achievements of the initiative.

The portal is an official information service platform on the Belt and Road Initiative for global users, and further promotes information connectivity, exchange and cooperation among countries along the Belt and Road routes. The Chinese and English versions of the site went online on March 21, 2017.

The portal, developed under the guidance of the Office of the Leading Group for the Belt and Road Initiative, is hosted by China's State Information Center, with technical and operational support from the Belt and Road State Information Big Data Technologies Co., Global Times, Baidu Cloud and DBAPP Security.

The site has established an information liaison mechanism involving over 30 ministries and ministerial-level departments and 31 provincial-level regions in China. Guangdong and Shaanxi have launched local sub-sites of Belt and Road Portal.

The portal plays a significant role in giving state interpretations of policies and plans regarding the Belt and Road Initiative, releasing important information, providing services for businesses and cultural exchanges and showcasing the achievements of the initiative. It was also included on the list of deliverables at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in May 2017.
