Dozens of university professors are pleading with authorities to create detailed laws and regulations connected to sexual harassment on campus, reports thepaper.cn.

The "Anti-sexual harassment manifesto by national college teachers" has been initiated by Professor Xu Kaibin in Wuhan University.

So far the document been signed by over 50 professors from various universities across China.

This follows the public outing of a professor at Beihang University, who has been stripped of his teaching credentials following allegations of sexual harassment.

"Many college students have voiced their support to the way Chen Xiaowu was dealt with by Beihang University. But it's not just a matter for the students. As a teacher, I feel obliged to help the students," said Xu Kaibin.

The new document calls for the creation of new legislation against sexual harassment in colleges, high schools and elementary schools.

The Ministry of Education says it continues to maintain a zero-tolerance policy for any behavior that harms students or violates teacher's ethics.
