A suspect was returned to China from Thailand as part of an ongoing campaign to capture economic fugitives, the public security department of central Hunan Province announced Wednesday.

This was the first suspect that Hunan police have brought back from overseas this year during the Fox Hunt campaign, according to the department.

The suspect, surnamed Yuan, fled with about 200 million yuan (32 million U.S. dollars), which was allegedly illegally obtained from Luzhou Laojiao Co., a well-known liquor maker in China, by using false contracts from 2013 to 2014.

Hunan police started investigating the case in October 2014 and quickly approved his arrest.

Yuan fled China and stayed in several Southeast Asian countries, until he finally settled in Thailand.

Yuan turned himself in on Feb. 3 in Bangkok. With the help of the law enforcement department of Thailand, he was extradited back to Changsha, the provincial capital city, on Tuesday.

The Fox Hunt campaign targets economic suspects and corrupt Party members and government officials who have fled overseas. Enditem
