Beijing high-tech expo to open in mid-May

The 21st China Beijing International High-Tech Expo (CHITEC) will take place in Beijing from May 17 to 20, according to a news conference on May 3. The expo is jointly hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the State Intellectual Property Office, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and the Beijing Municipal Government. The event organizer is the CCPIT Beijing Sub-council.

With the theme of “taking the lead in hi-tech industries and facilitating the development of S&T innovation centers,” the 21st CHITEC focuses on national strategies and impending demands of social-economic development. According to the news conference, the expo will showcase sci-tech achievements and core technologies, and promote new perspectives and modes in developing hi-tech industries with the aim of creating better integration with foreign technologies, capitals, and expertise. 

Major events of the 21st CHITEC include themed talks, four days of exhibitions, 12 promotional activities on trade and 10 forum gatherings. 

The expo will be oriented towards cutting-edge progresses all over the world and promote innovations made in China. Achievements in marine science and technology and artificial intelligence such as the underwater robot Explore 4500, Xue Long the polar expedition vessel, and digital monitoring platform will be on display. Other leading technological breakthroughs in China such as the new generation of air-freighter and smart chips will also take the stage.

CHITEC was founded in 1998. Over the years more than 900 overseas sci-tech and business delegations from over 100 countries and regions have taken part in the expo. Altogether 35,004 hi-tech companies and research institutions have promoted their latest products and achievements, attracting 5.42 million visits to CHITEC. Nearly 1,000 forums and exchange activities have been held under 221 themes, inviting 5,426 renowned scientists, economists, and entrepreneurs to give talks. The expo has become an important platform to facilitate global cooperation and enhance sci-tech innovation. 

The news conference announced that the preparations for this year's CHITEC are almost complete. Seventeen international delegations from 14 countries and regions are expected to participate in various activities at the expo. More than 1,600 domestic enterprises will also attend the expo.
