Police in the border city of Pu'er in southwest China's Yunnan Province have recently seized a total of 96.62 kg of methamphetamine in two cases.

In March, police in Ximeng County received information that a drug gang was making plans to transport a shipment of drugs into China through the city of Jinghong in Yunnan's Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture.

An investigation was carried out and police detained one suspect on May 4 on an expressway section in Pu'er, and seized 34.25 kg of methamphetamine found in the suspect's vehicle.

On May 7, border inspection officers in Pu'er seized 62.37 kg of methamphetamine while checking a truck in Mengma Township, Menglian County. Another suspect was detained.

Both the cases are under further investigation.

Local authorities have noticed an increase in bulk transportation of drugs this year. During the first four months of 2018, Yunnan's border control authorities have seized a record high of nearly 3.5 tonnes of drugs.
