Five people were injured after a 5.0-magnitude earthquake jolted southwest China's Yunnan province Monday morning, local authorities said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 7 km, was monitored at 24.19 degrees north latitude and 102.71 degrees east longitude at 1:44 a.m. Monday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

In the epicenter, located in Sijie township, Tonghai county in the city of Yuxi, five people were found injured and hospitalized. They are in stable condition.

So far, the quake has left at least 18 houses damaged or collapsed, and partially affected power supply and telecommunication in the county.

The provincial earthquake administration said that an emergency response has been launched. Personnel have been sent to areas hit by the quake and disaster relief operations are under way.
