16th Beijing International Book Festival kicks off

The 16th Beijing International Book Festival raised its curtains on Aug. 22.

The event is co-hosted by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Beijing Municipal Committee, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, and the People's Government of Shunyi District.

The festival will feature an international "Belt and Road" publishing summit, themed activities to commemorate the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening up, lectures given by famous writers and experts, the Beijing International Children's Book Fair, and around 100 book release events.

The festival consists of multiple exhibition areas, each dedicated to publications on the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese characteristics for a New Era, the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening up, the Grand Canal culture, the music culture and technology integration, digital books, brick and mortar bookstores, children's books, online literature, etc.

Festival goers have flocked to the digital interactive exhibition, where they have the opportunity to experience AR, VR, holographic projection, 3D projection, large spatial positioning, large screen interaction, artificial intelligence, and other new technologies.

In addition, the organizers are inviting authors such as Wang Meng, Liu Cixin, Zhu Yong and Lu Tianming to deliver speeches at the book festival.

The festival will last until Aug. 26.
