Domestic and overseas journalists covering the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) were invited to visit Beijing's new airport on Aug. 30, and were amazed by the construction work.

The airport is set to be the world's largest, and ranked first by The Guardian on its list of "seven wonders of the modern world near completion." It has the world's largest steel roof structure, which spans 180,000 square meters, and the airport is connected directly with high-speed railways and subway lines with underground terminals, which could take travelers straight to downtown Beijing.

The airport is expected to complete its construction by the end of June 2019. "I will definitely come back to see the new airport [after it opens]," said an African reporter.

Faraway on the African continent, just like Beijing's new airport, many construction projects are completed by the Beijing Urban Construction Group Co., Ltd. (BUCG).

From 2013 to 2016, the BUCG has been responsible for the construction project of an opera house in Algiers, the capital of Algeria. The project, with designs full of local cultural characteristics and as a demonstration of Chinese architects' expertise, was awarded the Luban Prize, the highest award for quality in China's construction projects. Over the past two years, many artists from different countries have given performances at the opera house, which stands as a witness of the exchange on architectural art and culture between China and Algeria.

In 2014, the BUCG sent a team of workers to help to build biological laboratories in Sierra Leone, greatly contributing in the battle to overcome Ebola in West Africa. This July, the BUGG completed the construction of the Sierra Leone Tropical Infectious Disease Prevention & Control Center.

Nowadays, the BUCG has extended its work to over 10 countries in Africa, including a hotel in Sierra Leone, a vocational school in Burundi, and a hospital in Niger, covering the fields of water affairs, highways, airports, and housing construction. The BUCG also actively participates in the cooperation with African countries with regard to infrastructure construction, industrial parks, and investment and financing.
