The age at which Chinese children start accessing the internet keeps dropping, according to a blue book on the internet habits of Chinese youth in 2017.

By the end of 2017, more than 98% of the youth in China used the internet. Statistics show that 72% of the children start accessing the internet under the age of ten, a 16 percentage points increase from the 2010 figure.

As high as 73% of the country's young people have their own smartphones, and more students use smartphones in study.

The way young Chinese are obtaining news and information is also changing, said the blue book. Wechat has surpassed TV by becoming the first channel for information. Statistics show that 84% of the youth are using Wechat, while the proportion of those watching TV fell to less than half.

Statistics show that the young generation of parents is more likely to support their children using the internet and interacting with children via the internet. Children who get along with parents well are more inclined to use their parents' smartphone than those who have poor relationships with their families.
