Wang Yiqing has been able to get an exact DNA replica of "Doudou" after submitting a simple skin cell of his dog to a dog cloning facility at the end of May.

Dog cloning in China is not new, but remains somewhat controversial.

The first cloned dog in China was successfully bred from a skin cell in May, 2017. Standardizing of cloning technology since then has allowed for over 20 different dogs to be cloned since March of this year.

However, detractors of animal cloning note the replicated animals may share the same DNA, but may not share the same temperament.

There are also moral and ethical issues connected to the overall idea of cloning itself.
