Chinese President Xi Jinping's keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) Monday has won high attention from Hong Kong and Macao mainstream media.

The media hailed that China was keen to pro-actively open its market to the world during which the whole world would share benefits.

Hong Kong major newspapers published on Tuesday and Wednesday gave CIIE a wide coverage and highly positive comments. A comment published on Hong Kong Commercial Daily said that Xi's speech delivered China's commitment and confidence to advance a new round of high-level opening-up, support economic globalization and multilateral free trade.

As a major hub to connect China and the world, Hong Kong would benefit from broad domestic and overseas markets under China's further opening-up.

South China Morning Post editorials said that CIIE came amid the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up, signaling that China was broadening market access. All willing to participate would share the dividends during this new phase.

Sing Tao Daily editorials said that CIIE would provide a boost for world economy as China was to open both commodity and service markets. Hong Kong was supposed to seize this opportunity for its own development as well.

Lo Man-tuen, the executive director of Hong Kong Association for Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China, said that Xi's speech gave out a signal that China would deepen its reform and broaden its opening-up to strengthen confidence of the international community on future development of both China and the world.

Choi Koon-shum, the chairman of The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce of Hong Kong, said that a number of countries sent delegations to attend the expo, marking that they appreciated the Chinese market and were willing to share the opportunities generated by an open and prosperous Chinese market.

Macao Daily News, Va Kio Daily, Shimin Daily and other mainstream newspapers based in Macao also highlighted the opening ceremony of CIIE on front pages. These newspapers concluded key points and outlined actions newly proposed for China's new round of high-level opening-up.

Macao Daily News editorials said that CIIE was a significant move in the history of international trade development as well as China's concrete action to widen market access to the world and pursue an open world economy.

Shimin Daily editorials said that under a rising danger of a drift into protectionism and unilateralism across the globe, China strove to gather all forces to act as a stable engine for world trade and economy via actively expanding its market to the world.
