A man who killed an endangered bird in northeast China have gave himself up to police, following an online post of his act that caused public uproar.

A volunteer from China Wildlife Conservation Association on Monday posted on Weibo, a Twitter-like service, that someone driving an off-road vehicle had shot an oriental stork.

The oriental stork is classified as Endangered on the Red List of Threatened Species by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.

The man surnamed Liu escaped before the police arrived at the site but read about the post, which was widely circulated on Weibo late Monday.
