Shouhuang Palace in Jingshan Park, the second largest architectural complex on the central axis of Beijing, opened to the public on Nov. 22, after four-year renovation.

The latest renovation of the architecture began in 2014, which helped to restore the complex to its original look.

Shouhuang Palace was first built in 1749 in the Qing Dynasty during the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1711-1799). Its total area of over 21,000 square meters is only surpassed by the Forbidden Palace, and it was the last architectural complex on the city's central axis to open to the public.

Jingshan Park was one of the 14 heritage spots the city decided to include in the application for the central axis to become a World Cultural Heritage Site, and its renovation became a major project during this process. At present, the central axis has been included on the tentative list of the World Cultural Heritage Sites.

A permanent historical and cultural exhibition is being held in six halls of the complex, presenting visitors with its history and culture through 105 precious historical photos, two exquisite paintings, 16 cultural relics, 48 copies of documents, and 16 multimedia presentations.

The complex will receive up to 3,000 visitors from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every day, except for Mondays and holidays. Visitors can reserve tickets online seven days in advance through the WeChat public account "Wei Jingshan."
