Ten most beautiful streets in Beijing are the standouts among 892 side streets and alleyways Beijing has cleaned up in an urban improvement campaign launched earlier this April. The city on Nov. 17 announced the rankings based on recommendations and selections by various districts.

The top 10 most beautiful streets include Xizongbu Hutong that forbids vehicle parking, Yangmeizhu Xiejie, a 100-year-old cultural site, and Sanlitun Xijie, formerly a shabby back street.

The selection process for the ranking started on Oct. 2. From 892 side streets and alleyways that received a face-lift, 20 were nominated for 10 days of online voting and the expert review. Half of the 20 were named the "most beautiful streets," while the rest were given the Finalist Award.

The 10 most beautiful streets of Beijing are Xizongbu Hutong, Dongsi Sitiao Hutong, and Shijia Hutong in Dongcheng district, Dazhiqiao Hutong and Yangmeizhu Xiejie in Xicheng district, Sanlitun Xijie in Chaoyang district , Shuangyushu Sanjie in Haidian district, Guoguosi Beijing Street in Fengtai district, South Lane of Shidai Lufeng Community in Shijingshan district, and Xiongjia Hutong in Tongzhou district.

The 10 Finalist Award winners are Dafosi Dongjie, Qinglong Hutong, Dongchunshu Street, Hongci Lane, Yandai Xiejie, Liren Dongjie, Liuxiang Lane, Qijia Hezijie, Xingong Dajie and Fuxingli Xilu.

In April, Beijing Daily collaborated with a number of city government departments, including the City Management Committee, the Capital Civilization Office, and the Communist Youth League Committee, to launch a series of activities in an urban improvement campaign entitled "My Home Street, the Most Beautiful Street." The ranking of the most beautiful streets of Beijing is one of three major activities in the campaign, alongside with the other two --"Weekend Clean-up" and "Snapshot of My Home Streets."
