30 books make recommendation list at 2018 Reading Beijing event

The 2018 Reading Beijing book event was held at the Capital Library of China in Beijing on Wednesday, recommending a list of 30 books for people to read.

Books on the list cover social science, literature, popular science, topics about daily life, and children's books.

The list was determined by 17 book experts, who selected 30 from a wide range of books recommended by Beijing residents.

In addition, the book event included an award ceremony naming 74 children as Reading Champions.

Also at the event, 10 outstanding community libraries in Beijing were selected and announced. The libraries stood out among 21 community libraries recommended by 15 district-level libraries for being well equipped and offering unique services to readers.

The 10 libraries include the Wangfujing Bookstore branch of the First Library in Dongcheng district, Jiaolou Library of the Second Library in Dongcheng district, Fangjian Bookstore on Baizhifang Street in Xicheng district, etc.

Among them, Jiaolou Library in Dongcheng district is famous for its colorful activities for readers. Since its opening on Oct. 28, 2017, the library, located at the Forbidden City complex, has held 477 cultural activities with more than 37,000 readers who directly participated, making it a new cultural landmark integrating reading services, cultural exhibitions, cultural exchanges and other functions.

The book event was organized by the Publicity Department of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Beijing Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism.
