The 2018 Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Ice and Snow Tourism Experience Event and the 33rd Yanqing Ice & Snow Carnival officially opened in Yanqing district, Beijing, on Dec. 2.

The events will present about 50 activities including alpine skiing, an ice lantern show, temple fairs on ice and snow, and 10 featured tourist routes in the area.

Ahead of the 2022 Winter Olympics, the events are aimed at creating a "cultural tourism + sports" model to coordinate the development of the sports and cultural tourism resources in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

The Beijing Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau, the Tianjin Culture and Tourism Bureau, the Hebei Culture and Tourism Department, and the Yanqing District People's Government are main sponsors of the events.

During activities to try out winter sports, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei cultural and tourism departments showed off their tourism resources, especially their rich winter tourism resources.

At the launch ceremony, the Yanqing District Tourism Development Committee of Beijing and the Zhangjiakou Tourism Development Committee of Hebei province signed a memorandum of understanding on tourism cooperation. The two sides pledged to rely on their distinctive eco-tourism resources and long-standing historical and cultural resources, and make best use of the upcoming 2022 Winter Olympics to develop the regional economy. They will focus on ice and snow sports and cultural tourism, and enhance collaboration in event organization, product promotion, industry facility standards, tourism environment law enforcement, personnel training and smart management, in order to promote the regional culture, tourism and sports, and facilitate the construction of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Sports, Culture & Tourism Belt.

Also on Sunday, the 33rd Yanqing Ice & Snow Carnival kicked off with the theme of "Ice and Snow Carnival, Fun in Yanqing," and it will last through February 2019.

The Ice & Snow Carnival will feature the Yongning New Year Lantern Temple Fair and Yanqing Downtown Lantern Festival Flower Fair, bringing festivity to the upcoming Chinese New Year holidays. The sports events like the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei University Alpine Skiing Competition, 2018 Beijing-Zhangjiakou Alpine Skiing Competition, National Speed Skating Marathon, etc. are looking to ignite people's passion for the Winter Olympics. The carnival is also expected to help to prepare for the upcoming Winter Olympics and improve the service capabilities of Yanqing.

Organizers of the carnival are looking to take advantage of the bountiful bed and breakfast accommodations in Yanqing, and connect the distinctive resources of ice and snow, hot springs, ancient towns, lantern shows and folk customs in Beijing and Zhangjiakou. The 10 featured tourist routes span the whole region of Yanqing, taking people through the Great Wall Ice Carnival, Lantern and Skiing Tour, Hot Spring Tour, Foods and Health Tour, Winter Olympics Ice and Snow Extreme Sports Tour.
