The construction of the metro line serving Beijing Daxing International Airport has progressed to the stage of track laying, with work starting at six operation bases, according to Beijing Major Projects Construction Headquarters Office. The line is scheduled for trial operation in September 2019.

The first phase of the metro line is 41.36 kilometers long, passing through Fengtai and Daxing districts, and connects Caoqiao Station, Cigezhuang Station, and North Terminal Station at Beijing Daxing International Airport from north to south. At Caoqiao Station, passengers can transfer to Line 10 and Line 19 currently under construction. The new metro line will continue to extend northward to the Lize Financial Business District and set up an air service building to enable passengers to transfer to Line 14 and Line 16 under construction, as well as the planned Line 11.

"The new airport line has adopted many new technologies and high-tech standards in design, construction, vehicles, systems, operations," a person in charge at the office said, adding that the new airport line will adopt the world's highest level of fully automatic driving system, and vehicles can be fully automated in the processes of repairing, cleaning, and operation.

Meanwhile, the new airport line is for the first time using a standard different from that of ordinary subways in China, namely the "7 plus 1" carriage mode, with seven passenger carriages and one for luggage. The new metro line will also be China's first regional express line with the speed of 160 kilometers per hour. The goal is to help passengers commute from the capital's central area to the new airport within half an hour.

A person in charge at the Beijing MTR Construction Administration Corporation said the co-construction and shared corridor structure applied in the new airport metro line can save land and improve the landscape.
