As the first finished project under a framework agreement, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao is attracting much attention.

Located in the Hengqin area of Zhuhai city, the industrial park was jointly established by Macao and Hengqin aiming to accelerate the industrial management and internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine.

Since its establishment, the industrial park has continued to innovate the cooperative model and helped traditional Chinese medicine companies from both the mainland and Macao to go global.

Promoting traditional Chinese medicine in Portuguese-speaking countries

The industrial park is cooperating with Mozambique through training courses focused on traditional Chinese medicine practice. At present, 209 doctors and physical therapists from public hospitals in Mozambique are attending such courses.

This June, 30 doctors from Angola, Cape Verde, and Guinea-Bissau attended courses held in the park. This was the first time traditional Chinese medicine training has penetrated Portuguese-speaking countries other than Mozambique.

Helping traditional Chinese medicine explore overseas markets

The industrial park holds a regular traditional Chinese medicine forum and fair in Portugal, Spain and Holland and is seeking to further expand its sales channels, said Yang Bo, an official with its department of recruiting, investment and operation.

The preparatory office of the Mozambique Traditional Chinese Medicine Center was unveiled last July in the country’s capital of Maputo. The center focuses on training, outpatient treatment, sales and joint development of medicines.

Constructing comprehensive platform for Chinese medicine resources

Since 2015, the industrial park has organized nine international forums of Chinese medicine in countries such as Thailand and Portugal, Yang said, with almost 700 enterprises and over 2,500 guests attending.

A total of 104 enterprises have been incorporated in the park so far, including 26 from Macao. They are involved in various areas such as Chinese medicine, health care products, medical instruments and medical services.
