20 hospitality companies sign up for Beijing horticultural expo

On Dec. 19, 20 food and beverage companies and hotels signed contracts in Beijing's Yanqing district to service the upcoming International Horticultural Exhibition (Beijing Expo) 2019, which is scheduled to open in April. 

As construction for the expo draws to an end, preparations for services and operation during the event is now underway, said Zhang Lannian, chief engineer of the authority coordinating the expo affairs.

Zhang is also the president of Beijing World Horticulture Exposition Investment and Development Co. As the organization in charge of securing service providers for the expo, the company cooperated with three of the 20 companies, building three hotels for the expo. The hotels will offer 748 beds in 471 hotel rooms, and ensure a total restaurant capacity of 1,535.

Two of the three hotels are nearly finished, and the third is currently installing electronic and mechanical devices. All three hotels will be ready for operation in March next year, and will open for trial operation in April.

Catering services in the expo areas are also improving. With 75 percent of the contracted companies as top fast food brands, the food to be served will takes into account customs of different regions and religious beliefs, including two halal restaurants.

According to the chief engineer, the service facilities will dot in the expo area, covering a total area of 19,000 square meters and offering retail and catering services and horticultural products.

In addition, there will also be exhibitions and interactive activities of intangible cultural heritage.

According to reports, expo organizers have completed 90 percent of its business development goals. With contract signing and decoration work now underway, operations are expected to start next April. A business management office will soon be set up to offer one-stop services to companies in the expo area.
