Beijing's Government Affairs Service Center launched "one-window" services at its service hall Wednesday, which would handle more than 1,000 types of administrative approval procedures for companies and individuals.

The service center is equipped with an information desk at the door to field inquires. It also has a number of self-service machines, and hall staff are available to answer questions and offer guidance on how to operate them.

A resident surnamed Jin said the center offers one-stop-shop administrative services, so that people would not need to make multiple trips.

The service center previously had 186 windows, which was reduced by one-third. Now, the windows are divided into three areas, comprising the service windows, the inquiry windows, and the certificating windows.

Wang Jianwei, vice director of the Administrative Approval Division of Beijing's Government Affairs Service Center, said the new services enable residents to have their applications and other affairs dealt with at one window.

In the past, a citizen had to go to several windows to file for different matters, and queue up multiple times at the service hall.

Wang said the service center has clearly listed required documents and give detailed instructions, while removing vague language in the administrative process.

"As long as residents prepare proper papers, their applications are sure to be handled successfully at the windows," he said.

Now, about 90 percent of city-level administrative procedures can be handled at these windows. All government departments will delegate more power to the service center to enable more government administrative procedures to be processed at the one-stop windows.
