A total of 165 duty crime suspects who had fled China returned and surrendered themselves between Aug. 23 and Dec. 31 2018, according to disciplinary authorities.

The National Supervisory Commission (NSC) and four other departments announced on Aug. 23 that fugitives who opt to turn themselves in before the end of 2018 and confess to their crimes will be eligible for lesser punishments.

According to the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the NSC, 441 fugitives from 46 countries and regions were caught during the period, including the 165 suspects.

Of the fugitives, 117 used to be employees at government agencies.
