The shield tunneling of a section of Beijing Subway Line 7 (eastern extension) and that of Batong Line (southern extension) was recently completed, according to Beijing Uni-Construction Group Co.

The two extension lines are set to open at the end of 2019 to link downtown Beijing with its subsidiary administration center in Tongzhou district.

This 1.8 kilometer-long section of Line 7 eastern extension stretches eastwards from Wanshengnanjie Xikou Station to Yunjing East Road Station, the tunnel of which covers three connecting passages. The completed section of Batong Line southern extension is about 1,369 meters with two underground stations of Shiyuan and Universal Studios, both transfer stations with Line 7 eastern extension.

The two extension lines are expected to start trial operations at the end of 2019. Line 7 eastern extension begins at Jiaohuachang Station and ends at Universal Studios Station, totaling 16.6 kilometers with nine stations. Batong Line southern extension is 4.5 kilometers, stretching from Tuqiao Station to Universal Studios Station.

Meanwhile, Line 17 of Beijing Subway is now under construction. The new line, fully underground, will run north-south through Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area and such districts as Changping, Chaoyang, Dongcheng and Tongzhou, totaling 49.7 kilometers with 21 stations, including nine transfer stations. The L-shaped line will start from Future Science Park North Station, then turn southeast at Shilihe Station, and end at Yizhuang Zhanqianqu South Station. The construction of its southern section from Shilihe Station to Yizhuang Zhanqianqu South Station is expected to be finished by the end of 2021.
