Beijing will welcome coverage of the newest 5G network for the first batch of its commercial buildings.

SOHO China and the Beijing Branch of China Telecom have announced that they will work together to build 5G networks in six of SOHO China's commercial buildings-Leeza SOHO, Wangjing SOHO, Galaxy SOHO, Sanlitun SOHO, Chaowai SOHO, and SOHO Shangdu.

"Only when all buildings are connected through 5G can communication be really built up," said Pan Shiyi, chairman of SOHO China. He called upon all real estate developers, property owners, and management to prepare for the 5G era.

Beijing Telecom has started the construction of 5G networks in all six buildings, and SOHO China will provide necessary support for the installation of telecommunication facilities.

Xiang Huangmei, deputy general manager of China Telecom, summarized the three merits of 5G: high bandwidth, low latency, and high density connections. She said the bandwidth of 5G can be 100 times higher than that of 4G, and the delay is only one-20th of 4G. Driverless vehicles are more likely to be realized in the 5G era, as the technology requires fast computing, transmission, and interaction.

Commenting on the recent news of U.K.-based BT group becoming the first foreign telecommunication company to secure nationwide license in China, Xiang said, "We welcome everyone to compete since competition will stimulate all companies to improve themselves and reduce the social cost."
