Beijing released a plan to carry out a total of 300 major construction projects in 2019, with an investment of 235.4 billion yuan (about US$35 billion).

The 300 projects include 100 infrastructure projects, 100 projects focusing on the improvement of people's livelihoods, and 100 projects for high-end technological industries. The number of construction projects is at a record high over the past years, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

As the top project, Beijing Daxing International Airport is expected to be completed by June. Two highways and a subway line linked to the new airport will be put into use upon its completion.

The city will also begin the construction on parts of Subway Line 13, the northern extension of New Airport Line, and the western extension of Line 11, expanding the total length of the metro network to 699.3 kilometers in 2019.

A total of 11 traffic hubs and bus stations will be built in Chaoyang, Haidian and Changping districts to better satisfy people's needs for public transportation.

By the end of this year, construction for an integrated transportation hub will begin in Beijing's sub-center, which is set to become China's largest underground transportation hub, connecting the district to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

In an effort to improve public service, 20 projects for education will be built this year to enable people more access to quality resources. And 25 healthcare projects will also help to relocate resources to places where healthcare resources are lacking.

Moreover, Beijing will continue to develop 50,000 units of public rental housing and 60,000 units of subsidized housing. This year, the city plans to renovate 11,500 shantytown housing units, ensuring that the area of land for residential use is above 1,200 hectares.

To make sure elder care service facilities could cover more regions, construction for three elder care service centers in Dongcheng, Xicheng and Tongzhou districts will complete by the end of this year, which will altogether provide 3,000 beds.

The projects this year are also focusing on upgrading the manufacturing industry and fostering technological innovations, such as the projects carried out in Zhongguancun Integrated Circuit Design Garden and Huairou Science City.

The housing commission said the 300 projects would focus on the improvement of the functions of the downtown areas, the high-quality development of Beijing's sub-center in Tongzhou district, protecting the ecology and environment, building infrastructure, and the improvement of public services.

Among these projects, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development listed 47 major projects in particular need of additional financing, which are looking to raise a total of 143.2 billion yuan in the short term.
