A sum of 200 million yuan (US$29.9 million) is earmarked for the construction of the Beijing Sub-Center Museum in 2019, according to the budgetary information disclosed by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics on Feb. 27. This accounts for the majority of a sizeable increase in budget compared to last year.

The cultural relics bureau's revenue forecast stands at 1.01 billion yuan, an increase of 155.88 million yuan over its 2018 revenue, or 18.21 percent. The expenditure budget totals 1.01 billion yuan, of which the basic expenditure budget is 353 million yuan, and the project expenditure budget is 659 million yuan.

The increase in expenditure budget is due to the increase in budgeted project expenditure, which is up 26.33 percent over 2018. The increment is mainly for the construction of the Beijing Sub-Center Museum, with the earmarked sum of 200 million yuan.

The sub-center museum will be located on the south side of the sub-center administrative office area, with a total construction area of about 84,000 square meters. The project includes the construction of the museum proper and its supporting service rooms. The construction is to begin in 2019 and the government is to arrange 200 million yuan for the fixed assets of the museum, according to the cultural relics bureau.

The budget information of the cultural relics bureau for the year 2019 shows that this year's expenditure budget mainly goes to the exhibitions and cultural activities to be put on to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the construction of the national cultural center, the special survey of Beijing's revolutionary cultural relics, the implementation of the "Culture Plus" development concept, the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the construction of a public cultural system, and the development of cultural, museology and creative industries.

In 2019, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics will undertake more than 30 major projects, including the pedestrian path from Zhengyangmen to Yongdingmen, the rectification of the surroundings of the Bell and Drum Tower, and the face-lifting of the fa?ade of Di'anmenwai Street.

In addition, it will push ahead with the construction projects of the Luxian City Ruins Park (including the ruins museum and the archaeological workstation) and the Sub-Center Museum, repair such key cultural relics as Baliqiao Bridge and Wanshou Temple, and carry out archaeological work in the Zhangjiawan area.

Meanwhile, it will launch the Great Wall repair project in the southern Jiankou section in Huairou district, the rescue project of the watchtowers No. 1 through 9 at the Liucun section of the Great Wall built in the Ming Dynasty, and the rescue project of the Great Wall on the Panlong Mountain at Gubeikou in Miyun district.
