After Beijing launched an online platform on Jan. 17 to offer streamlined services for opening a business, the processing time for registering a new business has been shortened from five to three days, sometimes even less.

The ECT Service Platform was jointly developed by the Beijing Municipal Administration for Market Regulation and other municipal departments.

It was designed to offer one-stop-shop services for opening a business, including the application for a business permit, an official seal and invoices, the registration of social security, and appointments for opening bank accounts.

The platform achieves real-time data entry and access among different departments, and improves the efficiency of handling procedures.

"We submitted the application for opening a business at the ECT Services Platform, and then received the electronic license on the same day and got all procedures completed only in three days," said a user of the online services surnamed Mu.

The platform has eliminated 85 percent of the procedures from the old registration process and allows people wanting to open businesses to have their complete application process at one location, use one online platform, fill in one sheet of paperwork, submit the application only once, and make just one trip.

Mu said the online platform is very user-friendly and it only takes a few steps to complete the application procedures, and the platform also allows users to handle issues of social security funds, thus reducing many hassles.
