A master plan for the airport economic zone around Daxing International Airport in Beijing has been submitted for approval and is expected to receive an official reply soon, according to Zhou Liyun, a deputy to the National People's Congress and Party secretary of Daxing district. Currently, the focus is on establishing regulations and policies for the airport economic zone; building of development platforms and recruitment of qualified professionals is set to begin soon.

According to the plan documents issued by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and approved by the State Council in 2016, Beijing and Hebei province will jointly build the designated airport economic zone, which, in the preliminary plan, takes up a total of 150 square kilometers, with about one-third of this in Beijing and two-thirds in Hebei.

Zhou revealed that the new master plan is now being processed by the NDRC. With detailed plans for constructing initial areas and the comprehensive bonded zone underway, they will be working on regulations and policies, as well as platform building and personnel recruitment.

As planned, the bulk of Daxing International Airport will be completed on June 30 and opened for use before Sept. 30 this year. Daxing district has specified 37 tasks to be completed, including landscaping and construction of supporting facilities, to ensure smooth advancement of the project, Zhou added. Meanwhile, the relocation of residents of 19 noise-affected villages is mostly finished.
