The Fourth Wutong Mountain Rhododendron Moulmainense Flower Fair opened on March 18 in the Wutong Mountain Scenic Area in Shenzhen, Guangdong province.

The event runs until April 9 and is co-hosted by Shenzhen Planning and Natural Resources Bureau, Luohu District Government, Yantian District Government, the Wutong Mountain Scenic Zone administrative office, and the publicity department of the CPC Luohu Committee.

The flower fair is held at two sites. The main site is at the Wutong Yanyun and Fenggu Mingqin Scenic Zone, and the other site is at the Shatoujiao tree farm.

Rhododendron moulmainense is a species of rhododendron, native to southern China. The flowers are fragrant, and the petals are white or pink. It is an evergreen shrub or a small tree 3-8 meters tall. The leaves are 4–13 cm long, elliptical, and leathery. Every leaf has a curvy margin rolling backward toward the underside.

A series of activities, including practicing Taichi boxing, trying on Han Chinese clothing, and reciting classic Chinese verses, were organized at the opening ceremony of the flower fair. Its flowering period is from March 15-25. Free guided tours are offered to visitors during the flower fair.

Botanists spent nearly 10 years cultivating more than 50,000 plants of the flower on Wutong Mountain, forming a sea of flowers. Over the last three years, the scenic area has introduced more than 600 species of new azaleas.
