Li Shixiang, former vice chairman of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, has been indicted on a charge of taking bribes, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) announced Tuesday.

Li's case had been investigated by the National Supervisory Commission. Upon the designation of the SPP, the People's Procuratorate of Changchun, Jilin Province reviewed the case and filed it in the Changchun Municipal Intermediate People's Court.

Prosecutors accused Li of taking advantage of his previous posts, including Beijing vice mayor, to seek benefits for others and accepting vast amounts of money and gifts.

The SPP said the prosecutors had informed the defendant of his litigation rights, questioned him and listened to the defense counsel's opinions.
