Premier Li Keqiang Thursday called on the vocational education sector to train more talent in order to aid the country's development.

In an instruction to a national meeting on vocational education reform, Li said this year China planned to increase the number of students engaged in vocational education by a million.

"Vocational education should try to cater to the demands of the high-end manufacturing and service sectors as well as those the market needs the most," he said.

"The government will encourage enterprises and the private sector to engage in vocational education."

Vice Premier Sun Chunlan attended and addressed the meeting, where she vowed to implement Li's instructions and push forward reforms in the sector.

Sun urged local governments to improve the training of teachers in vocational schools, update teaching materials and methods, and support cooperation between schools and enterprises.
