China has achieved remarkable results in intellectual property rights (IPR) protection since the Outline of the National Intellectual Property Strategy was issued in 2008, according to an evaluation report released Thursday.

The outline was issued on June 5, 2008 to improve China's capacity to create, utilize, protect and administer intellectual property.

From July 2017 to June 2018, a joint inter-ministerial meeting on the implementation of the Outline under the State Council carried out the evaluation.

From 2007 to 2017, the number of effective invention patents in China increased from 84,000 to 1.356 million, the total number of effective registered trademarks increased from 2.353 million to 14.92 million, and the annual number of copyright registrations increased from 159,000 to 2.748 million.

According to the report, in the past 10 years, the application of IPR in China has achieved remarkable results, promoting economic and social development.

Meanwhile, China strengthened the IPR protection, deepened the reform of IPR management system, enhanced awareness of IPR and stepped up IPR cooperation with other countries, the report said.

According to Gong Yalin, an official from the joint inter-ministerial meeting on the implementation of the outline, the outline will expire in 2020 and China will work out a strategic framework on IPR for up to 2035.
