Expo 2019 Beijing to stage 2,500 cultural shows

Since its opening in late April, Expo 2019 Beijing has staged many cultural events, such as Serbian folk songs, Czech puppet shows, Peking Opera performances, Tianjin kuaiban, and presentations of intangible cultural heritages.
According to the expo organizers, about 2,500 events showcasing the Chinese culture as well as those of other countries will be put on in the expo park.
In the past few days, a world folk culture series has been put on in the expo park, attracting throngs of visitors. During the "Beijing Day" exhibition period, 100 artists from 12 Central and Eastern European countries presented exotic performances every day.
From May 8 to 10, the song and dance troupes from Qiandongnan Prefecture in Guizhou province and Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan province will present a number of national art performances. Visitors can enjoy the performances of niutuiqin (a musical instrument shaped like the leg of an ox) and experience the artistic charms of the Yi ethnicity.
A person in charge of the large-scale activity department of the Beijing World Horticultural Expo Coordination Bureau said that the expo park has featured programs every day, week, and month. Some important cultural presentations and shows have been scheduled from June to October, such as the intangible cultural heritage exhibitions, folk culture and art shows, and the Beijing Excellent Folk Culture Exhibition.
At the same time, such special events as "Country Day," "Honor Day," "Province and City Day," float parades, and seven international competitions in horticulture are scheduled to take stage. In particular, the World Floriculture Competition in August will have contestants from various countries to compete against one another.
More than 60 countries and international organizations will carry out cultural activities during the expo, according to Wang Hong, deputy mayor of Beijing and deputy director and secretary general of the Expo 2019 Beijing executive committee. The expo will be a platform for display of multiple art forms and dialogues between multiple cultures, she said.
Slobodan Trkulja from Serbia, who was invited together with his music band Balkanopolis to perform at the expo park, said that the Expo 2019 Beijing is a wonderland and that they are very glad to perform and communicate with Chinese artists.
