China to strengthen surveys, observation, assessment of biodiversity

China will reinforce in surveying, observing and assessing its biodiversity to identify underlying prominent problems and safeguard national ecological security, according to the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) Wednesday.

The country will initially finish inspecting and evaluating biological diversity conditions in the Yangtze River Economic Belt and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

The MEE minister said that China would continue to highlight the protection of biodiversity and engrave the topic into regulations and development plan in fields of agriculture, forestry, fishery and financing.

Meanwhile, the country will evaluate the condition of biodiversity and perfect regulations, laws and standards to strengthen monitoring and better protect the country's biodiversity, Li added.

China announced the plan as May 20 marks the International Day for Biological Diversity, which focuses on biodiversity as the foundation for human food and health.
