Donations by Chinese philanthropists up 50% in 2018

The volume of donations by Chinese philanthropists and enterprises on the China Philanthropy List hit a record high of 27.63 billion yuan (about 4 billion U.S. dollars) last year, a 50-percent rise year on year, China Daily reported Monday.

The donations were made by 274 philanthropists and 744 philanthropic enterprises on the list, which was released by the China Philanthropy Times. Individual philanthropists alone donated 9.53 billion yuan, an average of 34.81 million yuan per person.

The China Philanthropy List has been compiled annually since 2004, with individual and corporate donors making annual donations above 1 million yuan selected as data samples, according to China Daily.

Data sources include the civil affairs system, donors, charity organizations, the annual reports of listed companies, media reports and file data from the China Philanthropy Times.
