A Chinese speaking contest for international young people, themed the pursuit of a "community with a shared future for mankind," concluded in the Beijing Language and Culture University on Friday June 14.

Fifteen contestants participated in Friday's finals. They were chosen from preliminary contests attended by a total of 116 young people from 78 countries. The finalists represented Italy, Mexico, Mongolia, Benin, Spain, Egypt, Hungary, Russia, Japan, Pakistan, Vietnam, France, Nepal, Turkey and Zimbabwe.

The contestants were required to share their views, in fluent mandarin, on the concept of a "community with a shared future for mankind." They took an international perspective in telling stories about the rapid development of China.

Alessandro Martini from Italy won the championship, while Mendbayar Bolor-Erdene from Mongolia, Nguyen Quo Ctu from Vietnam and Julien Fabrice Bonzon from France tied to win the second place.

Mendbayar Bolor-Erdene said that, the concept put forward by China will help all countries solve international problems through close cooperation.

Maksim Luppov from Russia told stories about him and his father's special connection with China. He gave a vivid account of the great changes that have happened in China and their differing generational views on China.

Mannallah Sayed Elsawy Mohamed Elrashedy from Egypt shared her ideas that the futures of countries are interconnected and there are no isolated interests.

Muhammad Salman Haider from Pakistan praised China's new "four great inventions" - food delivery service, mobile payments, bike-sharing and high-speed rail, which have made his studying in China more convenient. He hoped to play a role in promoting China-Pakistan friendship.

Cumen Niyazi from Turkey explained that Chinese culture attaches great importance to harmony and peace, and the concept of a "community with a shared future for mankind" demonstrated that China hopes to make contributions to world peace, harmony and progress together with other countries.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. To mark the event, the mandarin speaking contest was jointly sponsored by the Project of Writing on China by Foreigners under the framework of the state-level Silk Road Fragrant Books Project and Beijing Language and Culture University.

The contest also aims to expand exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries, helping people around the world have a better understanding of Chinese culture and mandarin.
