On June 14, World Blood Donor Day, Shenzhen's first smart blood donation station was officially opened at Luohu Bookstore.

Wu Yihuan, deputy mayor of Shenzhen and chairman of the Red Cross of Shenzhen, attended the opening ceremony of the smart blood donation station. On behalf of the municipal government and the Red Cross of Shenzhen, Wu extended her appreciation to some organizations and many donors for their active participation in blood donation.

The smart blood donation station makes use of the internet of things technology to process the complicated registration procedures of voluntary blood donation. As a result, the nurses have more time to communicate with donors and collect blood.

Shenzhen needs at least 500 voluntary blood donors every day to meet clinical demand for blood. Currently, the city's blood banks' demand and supply are in good balance. At present the city is building and expanding a number of large-scale hospitals, which means the clinical demand for blood is expected to rise in the future. So, the city plans to build more smart blood donation stations to meet this rising demand.
