Luohu initiated a youth food safety science popularization project on June 27.

Also part of the national food safety publicity week, the project covers all 42 public primary schools in the district, where all students of grade 3 will receive courses on food safety knowledge.

Apart from the primary schools, another 11 units, including Shenzhen Second Senior Technical School, are taking part in the project. The Luohu government has invited some food safety experts to help ensure the children gain an in-depth understanding.

Wen Zhong, deputy head of the Luohu government, said: “The project is a means and a brand activity for Luohu’s food safety work, and there will be attempts to include private primary schools, kindergartens, and middle schools in the district.”

Li Zhong, deputy chief of the Shenzhen market regulation bureau, said food safety entails the whole of society’s attention and participation. It is hoped the science popularization project can offer wide-ranging social benefits especially in raising public awareness of the issues involved, but particularly young people.

Luohu has carried out this project since 2017, with its coverage steadily enlarging, and the courses constantly being improved. The children are seen as playing an important role in prompting their families to learn relevant knowledge.
