On July 9, the website of China Academy of Railway Sciences released a draft of the environmental impact assessment report for the Winter Olympic Subway project, which disclosed detailed planning information for the subway line. According to the report, the western section of Line 11-designated as the Winter Olympics subway line-open to traffic by the end of 2021. It will have four stations, and connect the five major functional areas in the northern zone of Shougang's Beijing Park.
With a total length of 4 kilometers, the subway line has a designed max speed of 100 kilometers per hour. Among its four stations, two of them are transfer stations, with one station connecting Line S1 and the other connecting Line 6.
In the future, the Winter Olympics subway line is planned to operate more flexibly, and the trains will be organized in the form of 3A or 6A, which means a single train can have three or six A-type carriages, all depending on actual circumstances.
In 2016, the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Winter Olympic Games settled in Shougang and announced that the Shougang competition area will undertake events such as skiing jumping. According to the recent construction plan of New Shougang High-end Industry Comprehensive Service District, the northern zone of Shougang's Beijing Park will be completed before the 2022 Winter Olympics. The northern zone includes five functional areas: Winter Olympics Square, Shijingshan Landscape Park, Shougang Industrial Heritage Park, Urban Reconstructed Innovation Works, and Public Service Supporting Area.
With such a large scale of construction, there is an urgent need for the support of public transport, especially rail transit. According to relevant planning, the Winter Olympics subway line will start its construction in 2019 and open to traffic by the end of 2021.
