Since the beginning of this year, many parks in Tongzhou have completed construction and are about to open to the public. Together, they are raising the district's green coverage from 70.6% to 80%.

The project to upgrade Haiziqiang Park in Majuqiao Town is in the home stretch. The site was originally the culture square of the town, which is now being developed into a green open space integrating recreation, entertainment, and education.

Yongshun City Park at the border between Chaoyang and Tongzhou districts was completed and put to use more than a month ago. It was formally an artificial forest land left unattended, and became a dumping ground of garbage and home to various illegal buildings. Now it has become a green urban park covering over 20 hectares.

A number of other parks and gardens are also about to open in Tongzhou, such as Jianhe Park, Sanyuancun Park, Xihaizi Park, Great Canal Forest Park, and Yunchun Park.

In addition, pockets of green spaces have emerged around the district, including Huashijiang Park, Qiufeng Park, Jingya Park, Jiamu Park, and Longwangzhuang Park. In all, 15 are now open to the public.

The construction of landscape parks is also in full swing. A 1,667-hectare multi-functional eco-park is scheduled to complete building next year. And a "greenery center" covering 11.2 square kilometers has been promised to decorate the district with plants and landscape avenues.

With around 87 hectares of newly added greenery areas, Tongzhou is leading among Beijing's 16 districts in efforts to add more green to the Chinese capital.
