This year marks the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Shenzhen Grand Theatre. To celebrate the event, the theatre will host its 23rd art festival from September to January.
The festival is themed "Looking back on the past 30 years", and will consist of 30 shows, including operas, symphonies, musical drams and choruses. Patriotic operas and songs, as well as some classic Western programs, such as Swan Lake, Anna Karenina, Cinderella, A Doll's House and the tap dance 'Titanic', will be some of the main shows staged by Chinese and foreign performance troupes.
The theatre held its first art festival in 1992, and was one of the first city theatres to host such an event. Locals refer to the Grand Theatre as a "palace of refined arts" and it has, over the years, witnessed Shenzhen's growth into an international metropolis.
