Police in eastern China's Anhui Province said Thursday that they have recently busted a fake online investment platform and arrested 23 suspects.
At the end of May this year, police in Laian County received a report from a victim who invested money through a cellphone app and was unable to withdraw the money.
Following the clue, the police found a trans-provincial Internet fraud ring that had created a fake online investment platform and manipulated the rise and fall of profits and losses on the platform. Suspects involved in the case were scattered across places including the provinces of Hebei and Henan.
The amount of money involved in the case totaled over 10 million yuan (about 1.45 million U.S. dollars).
The police launched a campaign on July 26 in nine localities and captured the 23 suspects.
Further investigation is underway.
