The construction project of the western extension of the Line 5 subway in Shenzhen successfully emerged above ground for the first time on Aug. 10, near the Huangbei Mountain Range Station.

The extension, 2.88 kilometers in length, stretches from the Huangbei Mountain Range Station to the Grand Theater of Shenzhen in Luohu district.

Although the line is not long, the project has not proved easy to accomplish, as it passes under a densely-populated area, and had to navigate complicated pipeline networks underground, and a large number of public facilities on the surface, forcing the constructors to work hard to minimize its influence on them.

Thanks to the support from relevant departments of the Luohu government, these difficulties were overcome, ensuring the project advanced as scheduled.

The Line 5 subway connects Bao'an, Nanshan, Futian and Luohu districts in Shenzhen, and is a main urban traffic artery of the city.
