A major suspect for a gang crime was extradited to China from Brazil Saturday, the first-ever delivery of a Chinese suspect from Brazil.

The criminal suspect, surnamed Huang, was extradited from Sao Paulo after absconding for 10 years by a working group of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS).

Huang has organized and carried out illegal activities in Nan'an, southeast China's Fujian Province, such as opening casinos, illegal detention, deliberate provocation and extortion.

Local public security organs cracked down on the criminal gang in August 2010 and detained over 10 criminal suspects, while Huang absconded to Brazil.

In order to hunt the suspect down, the MPS carried out law enforcement cooperation with Brazil and issued a Red Notice on Huang through the Interpol.

After Huang was detained by the Brazilian police in Sao Paolo in August 2018, the Chinese police promptly submitted a request for extradition to Brazil in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. The extradition request was approved by Brazil's supreme court in June 2019.

The Chinese public security organs will continue to deepen international law enforcement cooperation in the future, and make every effort to hunt down and bring back suspects who have absconded overseas, said the MPS.
