'Silk Road Rediscovery Tour of Beijing' held in 2019 Expo Park

Beijing launched an event on Tuesday in Beijing Expo Park to promote the city through the eyes of visitors from 13 countries along the Belt and Road.

As a part of the celebrations for the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China, the event, titled "China Now: Silk Road Rediscovery Tour of Beijing, Upon the 70th Anniversary of the PRC,"  is organized by the Information Office of Beijing Municipal People's Government and will run through Friday. 

The Chinese capital is the national center for politics, culture, international exchanges, and scientific and technical innovation, and it has made great progress in social and economic development over the last seven decades.

Xu Hejian, deputy director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and director of the Information Office of Beijing Municipal People's Government, said the promotional event offers a chance for different civilizations to strengthen dialogues and exchanges. Xu said he hopes that by attending the tour in Beijing, foreign visitors will find a new Beijing, and a city that is full of innovation and seeking high-quality and green development. He said Beijing is an open city with a world-class business environment, and a city that values cultural protection and development.

"I hope you can share your insights of Beijing on your platform and tell the stories of Beijing to the world with your words and pictures, with an aim to promote the Belt and Road Initiative and build a community of shared future for mankind," Xu said.

This event has attracted foreign experts from think tanks, media organizations, and well-known writers from 13 countries including Cambodia, Canada, Indonesia, Iran, Germany, Kenya, South Korea, Myanmar, Pakistan, Russia, Serbia, Thailand, and Turkey.

Hans d'Orville, chief advisor of UNESCO International Center for Creative and Sustainable Development and assistant secretary-general for UNESCO's former Strategic Planning, said at the launch ceremony that the Belt and Road Initiative underscores the importance of international cooperation, and likewise, the Beijing tour will demonstrate the importance of cross-border cooperation.

Hariandi Hafid, a famous photographer from Indonesia, was here in Beijing for the first time. He shared with other visitors his photo stories about Beijing at the ceremony.

The visitors will join tours of the presentation center of 2022 Winter Olympic Games, Shijia Hutong Museum, Zhongguancun National Innovation Demonstration Zone, and 798 Art Zone. Beijing hopes that the tours would help to present its economic, ecological, social, and cultural development over the seven decades to the world.
