The city's hosting district of Kecheng also signed with the Chinese Weiqi Association to set up the Lanke Weiqi Institute.

The historical city of Quzhou is known for its Confucian culture and lineage of weiqi, also known as Go in English. Its Lanke district was named after a famous legend about a game of weiqi. The Chinese board game therefore became the city's cultural brand.

In recent years, Lanke district has hosted a number of national Chinese weiqi competitions, such as the National Weiqi Championship, the China Weiqi Chess Tournament, and the Lanke Cup China Weiqi Championship. Top players such as Nie Weiping and Ke Jie have frequented the events, further expanding the reputation of the city as the mecca of weiqi. Meanwhile, Kecheng district has zeroed in on nurturing young weiqi players by working with local clubs and institutes.
