A lecture, "Flag of China, Life", was held by the China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Centre for Young People in Beijing on Wednesday.

Delivered by Li Dongcai, chairman of the Chinese Theatre Literature Association, the lecture shared with schoolchildren behind-the-scenes stories of Li's photographic monograph on the flag-raising squad at Tian'anmen Square in Beijing.

As the monograph aimed to highlight the distinguished soldierly bearing of the flag-raising squad during its training routines, it revealed many touching moments about friendship, family and the soldiers' great sense of honor concerning the national flag.

By sharing these heart-warming stories behind the flag-raising ceremony, Li encouraged his young audience to "dream big" and to develop their own understanding about love of country as the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) drew near.

In addition, Li also addressed the recent incident in Hong Kong where the Chinese national flag was removed and tossed into Victoria Harbor by violent protesters. Li pointed out that such behavior violated the Law of the PRC on the National Flag.

"What those violent protesters have done is beyond tolerance, and they can never understand the responsibility shouldered by the soldiers forming the flag-raising squad, and what an honor this job is," Li added.

The lecture ended with schoolchildren performing a poetry reading and choral singing.
